Calem 20 Years Old Port (box of 2 bottles)
António Alves Cálem
Some of his contemporaries may have mistaken António Alves Cálem for an incurable adventurer, but it was entrepreneurship that fuelled his passion. When he founded Porto Cálem in 1859, he set his sights on crossing the Atlantic and exporting to Brazil. This at a time when Port was typically shipped to the British Isles and other European markets. Beaten paths were not for Cálem. Once he eventually set route to Brazil, his first transactions were done in exotic woods. Again, this could have easily been misjudged as a bold decision when, in fact, it was a pondered risk that forwarded a very successful business relationship.
The Douro, the oldest demarcated region in the world, grew the grapes. The cellars of Gaia aged the wine. And António Alves Cálem planned the enterprise. Dauntless, he prepared for an adventure that is still ongoing four generations later.
Calem 20 Years Old Port
Calem 20 Years Old Port is the result of a blend of wines which have been aged for an average of 20 years in oak casks, reflecting the ancient art of blending Ports.
With a greenish-brown colour, it shows aromas of wood, and delicious notes of jam and dried fruit. On the palate it is elegant and complex, with hints of balsamic. A long and structured finish.
