EQ Chardonnay Matetic has a soft yellow color with green hues. Very intense, but elegant aromas of tropical fruit, notes of honey and peach, together with caramel and cream due to the aging in oak barrels. In the mouth very concentrated and good volume. The acidity gives the wine life and freshness, the finish on the palate is long lasting and elegant.
The selected vineyards are located 17 km from the Pacific Ocean in the Rosario Valley sub-district and yield only 1.5 kg of grapes per stick!! These are harvested manually, then cooled upon arrival and an extra fruit check takes place. Careful vineyard management ensures that the grapes acquire both tropical fruit and minerality characteristics. The fruit is pressed very gently. The juice ferments and matures in French oak barrels of 225, 300 and 400 litres. For more complexity, part is given malolactic fermentation and batonnage is also applied for a period of 6 months (mixing the wine per cask with the settled yeast cells for more richness). The wine matures in these barrels for 18 months.
Ideal companion for fish, white meat, seafood, pasta and mature cheeses.
Serve at 53°F (12°C).
EQ Chardonnay Matetic is a delicious Chilean white wine of Viña Matetic from Chile. This wine is made from Chardonnay grapes.
The Matetic family exchanged Croatia for Chile in 1892 because of all the misery in the Balkans. As it turns out, that was a blessing for the wine world. After setting up several fruit and cattle breeding companies, the now 4th Chilean generation also decided to show their passion and enthusiasm in viticulture. Viña Matetic was born in 1999. Jorge and Cristian Matetic hired various wine-growing specialists to make wines in a biologically dynamic way as a team in the cool San Antonio and Casablanca Valleys. In short, this is the most pure and human and nature-friendly form of viticulture. Due to the proximity of the ocean, the valleys enjoy a moderate micro-climate with a difference between day and night temperatures of around 20 degrees during the growing season. Light breezes ensure cooling and good air circulation, allowing fruit to ripen optimally and moisture to cause hardly any fungi and diseases. On the poor soil of granite and weathered granite, red clay and dark earth as a top layer, the planted grape varieties thrive particularly well. The limited rainfall (around 485 mm per year) mainly falls during the winter season. Beautiful Chilean wines with a nod to the sophisticated producers in Europe.
