Gaja Sperss

Is a delicious Italian red wine from the Piedmont region. This wine is made by winery Gaja from 100% Nebbiolo grapes.


The history of winery Gaja begins in 1859, the year in which Giovanni Gaja, a local grape grower in Barbaresco, Piedmont, founded a wine company under his own name. Angelo Gaja, from 1961 in the company, is one of the wine producers who has ensured that Piedmont became famous in the international wine world.

He did this entirely quirky and contemporary by following his own insights. He planted international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and was part of the Super Toscans in the 80s and 90s. The Super Toscans consisted of a group of winemakers who did not conform to Italian wine legislation at the time.

Gaja Sperss

Is a complex, highly concentrated wine with black cherries, rhubarb, tar, licorice, truffle and lots of minerality. The structure is firm and rich and requires a few years of patience. The ripening potential is incredible. The fermentation takes approximately 3 weeks, after which the wine matures for 30 months in oak barrels. The vineyard is located in the Marenca-Rivette zone in Serralunga. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 370 meters in an amphitheater in the south-west. The soil consists of clay and lime-rich marl. The vines are on average 50 years old.

Wine- Food pairing

Serve with large game, red meat, preparations with mushrooms or truffles and hard cheeses.
