Markus Molitor

In 1984, at the tender age of 20, Markus Molitor took over his father's winery with a clear aim: to produce Mosel Rieslings under the name "Molitor" in the tradition of eight generations and in the same quality that made the region world-famous 100 years ago – terroir-specific, unmistakable and extremely storable.

"Learning from the past", an uncompromising commitment to quality in the manual (manual) work and selection in the vineyard and the harvest, precision in the cellar combined with our know-how and experience of nature, grapes and wine production, every terroir and every vintage manifested in the taste. Wines by Markus Molitor demonstrate the potential of the Mosel terroir, structure and depth of flavour combined with freshness and elegance. The winery is based at the centre of the Wehlener Klosterberg site and cultivates vineyards in 15 different sites, each of which is unique in its own way, and only a "Molitor terroir" for this reason.

Markus Molitor Brauneberger Mandelgraben* Pinot Noir

Is a beautiful bright red wine. A complex and sophisticated nose with elegance. Delicious aromas of cherries, blueberries, tobacco, pure chocolate, vanilla and drop. Gentle, concentrated and elegant wine. In taste, the wine has fresh acids and elegant tannin. The wine has high minerality and refinement and a long finish with a soft freshness.

The vineyards lie on a plot that varies from flat to steep. The part where the grapes come from is located on a slope that stretches into the forest. This provides an ideal water supply, even in hot, dry years. The grapes retain their acids very well. The soil is stony and powerful, with quartzite and gravel. That gives this Pinot Noir its acids and finesse.

The perfectly ripened, healthy grapes are harvested in November. Spontaneous fermentation arises after the infestation. The fermentation, of approximately 3 ½ weeks, the wine is stored in new French barriques for 14 months. Due to the long ripening a perfect clarification of the wine is created and this Pinot Noir is unfiltered.

Wine - Food pairing

To be served with red meat, game and ripe cheeses.

The vineyards are located in Traben-Trarbach and Graach. The soil consists mainly of slate and boulders.
