Matetic Syrah has a very dark, deep purple color. In the nose an expressive Syrah: elegant hints of pepper, violets, meat, spices, chocolate and soft menthol. In the mouth a good balance between a sour freshness and sweet velvety hints with soft and powerful tannins. A fantastic wine!
The manually and late harvested grapes for Matetic's top wine come from 2 specially selected vineyards in the Rosario Valley sub-district, 17 km from the Pacific Ocean. The destemmed grapes are cold soaked for 15 days to obtain the colorings and soft tannins. Subsequently, open vat fermentation is used with pigeage (immersing the skins) and reassembly (running grape juice over the skins). This creates more powerful and elegant cuvées to ultimately create the most ideal blend. The aging of 20 months takes place in precious French oak. For maximum experience, the wine is bottled unfiltered.
Serve this Syrah with flavorful red meats, lamb, venison or game and the intense flavors of aged cheeses.
We suggest decanting and serve at 65º Fahrenheit (18º Celsius).
Matetic Syrah is a delicious Chilean red wine from Viña Matetic from Chile. This wine is made from Syrah grapes.
The Matetic family exchanged Croatia for Chile in 1892 because of all the trouble in the Balkans. As it turns out, that was a blessing for the wine world. After setting up several fruit and livestock farms, the now 4th Chilean generation decided to manifest their passion and enthusiasm in viticulture as well. Viña Matetic was born in 1999. Jorge and Cristian Matetic recruited several winegrowing specialists to team up with conviction in the cool San Antonio and Casablanca Valleys to make wines in a biologically dynamic way. In short, this is the purest and most people-friendly and nature-friendly form of viticulture. Due to the proximity to the ocean, the valleys enjoy a moderate microclimate with a difference between day and night temperatures of about 20 degrees during the growing season. Light breezes provide cooling and good air circulation, allowing fruit to ripen optimally and humidity hardly causes fungi and diseases. On the poor soil of granite and weathered granite, red clay and dark earth as a top layer, the planted grape varieties thrive particularly well. The limited precipitation (about 485 mm per year) mainly falls in winter time. Beautiful Chilean wines with a nod to the refined producers in Europe.
