Rust en Vrede Estate Wine has a wide range of scents from the grape varieties, which have come to a perfect harmony in new oak barrels. It is a powerful wine with a beautiful dark color. In the bouquet you will find notes of smoke, oak, red cherry, blackcurrant, spices and vanilla. On the tongue the wine is full, complex, spicy, with aromas of plums, blackcurrant jam and well-blended tannins. In the aftertaste there are hints of vanilla and licorice. It's a masterful wine!
The grapes grown on the estate are picked and sorted by hand. Each harvest plot is vinified separately. The grapes are then skinned, ground and pumped into open fermentation tanks, where they undergo a maceration period of fourteen to 21 days. This with a seven-day fermentation with pump-overs and manual punch-downs up to four times a day. The aging takes place in 100% French oak barrels for 22 months.
The climate is that of the Mediterranean, the rainfall is approximately 650 mm per year. The vineyards are located on the northern slopes at the end of the valley, where they benefit from slightly warmer weather. The soil is deep red, a mixture of weathered granite and a small percentage of clay, Clovelly and Hutton structure.
A delicious wine with beautiful red meat and game.
Rust en Vrede Estate Wine is a delicious South African red wine from the Stellenbosch region South Africa. This wine is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah grapes by winery Rust en Vrede.
Recommended wine serving temperature between 16°C and 18°C.
For more than 320 years, Rust en Vrede winery has stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch. Throughout the centuries there were periods when wine was produced, but since 1977 they have specialized in producing only red wine with an emphasis on Syrah, Cabernet and Merlot. Many honors have been bestowed on the estate and some of the more memorable ones were when Rust en Vrede was chosen by President Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner and receive the Queen of Denmark for lunch with my family at the Manor House.
Rust en Vrede was nominated as the first South African red wine in the Top 100 Wines of the World and repeated this achievement for four consecutive years. Today, Rust en Vrede remains a fine example of what Stellenbosch stands for.
