Osborne

Osborne

Osborne was founded 240 years ago when a pioneering English merchant from Exeter named Thomas Osborne moved to the Spanish Cadiz to start a trading company, especially in wine. In this era the brand '' Osborne '' was known partly because Thomas Osborne was able to sell two premium sherry barrels in 1845 to the 'royal family'. Sherry is the cradle for the success of the Osborne brand. The fortified wine with the Spanish bull on the label is still the showpiece of the family to this day.

The sherry region is situated in the south of Spain near the city of Cadiz to be precise. Characteristic of the region are the white lime soils also called albarize and the wheat and sunflower fields. Sherry was the first Denomination of Origin (DO) from Spain, or the first wine region with a protected designation of origin. Sherry must be vinified in Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria or Sanlucar de Barrameda according to the regulations of the DO. The albariza soils give the sherries of Osborne a specific character. In addition, it is characteristic for both Osborne and sherry in general that the wines are subjected to the solera principle during the ripening process. Known in the Netherlands is mainly the standard sherry range of Osborne such as the Medium and the Mazanilla. However, Osborne also has a fantastic premium range that has earned its spurs mainly in gastronomy.
