Vina Altaïr is the flagship of the San Pedro Wine Group, the second largest wine producer in Chile. The name of this boutique winery is significant: Altaïr is the brightest star in the Eagle constellation, 10 times as bright as the sun, visible in both hemispheres, symbolizing the link between the 'new' and 'old' world. Altaïr is a single estate, located in Alto Cachapoal, 100 km south of Santiago, at the foot of the Andes, 600 meters above sea level. Nightly cool breezes from the Andes very favorably extend the ripening time of the grapes, warmed during the day by the continental winds from the west. These temperature differences provide more fragrances and flavors as well as a natural acidity (rare in wines of the new world). The vines have been planted on a sloping bottom of col-lean debris from the Andes, consisting of sand, clay and many stones. Thanks to excellent hygrometrie, it is an ideal environment for producing top wines, with a good balance between elegance and concentration.
