Weissburgunder - Pinot Blanc

Weissburgunder is best known in Germany but can also be found in various neighboring countries. In France it is under the name Pinot Blanc, in Italy as Pinot Bianco. This grape is gaining popularity in Germany. The grape also thrives in places where it is already too hot for the Riesling. With over 1100 hectares, Baden is a real stronghold for Weissburgunder, just like the Pfalz with more than 800 hectares and Rheinhessen with more than 700 hectares. Weissburgunder is also with a good 200 hectares of significance on Nahe and Moselle. Weissburgunder presents itself pale to pale yellow in color, soft and subdued in the scent. Characteristic is a slightly nutty aroma. It is mainly vinified dry, with medium to strong body and fine acids. Barriers are also used for education at Spät- and Auslese level. Noble sweet versions and fresh Weissburgunder sekt are also available on a small scale.
