Since 1958 Cantina Frentana history has been handed down with passion. A story with a genuine taste in which players may have changed, but values remain untouched. This land, laying on Majella hills and lit up by the Costa dei Trabocchi splendour, has always been consecrated to vine cultivation and wine culture. The generous chalky soil, the sweet alternation of sea and land breeze, the wise mitigation action of the sea, are much more than a cold description of this territory of excellence: they are our tradition and our history, a magic to which we naturally belong.
We search for absolute excellence through a careful selection of the vineyards and thanks to the hands that passionately take care of them. We work to enhance our extraordinary native vine varieties. This is the quality project launched at the beginning of the millennium by Cantina Frentana. This philosophy is based on ethics and sustainability, so people and their bond with the territory are essential: a total quality project involving nearly one hundred vineyards, using innovative, but environmentally friendly techniques, offering lifelong training and valuable help by expert agronomists. Finally, the choice of organic agriculture and the launching of projects for environment and biodiversity enhancing, such as “Paleovite d’Abruzzo” variety, in order to safeguard the genetic heritage of the last wild vines from Abruzzo discovered in Oasi of Laccetta in Torino di Sangro.
Many arms and many minds have allowed Cantina Frentana to be what it is. What we now know as Banca dei vigneti (Vineyards bank) was created from many years of shared knowledge: it’s an extraordinary resource thanks to which the cellar directly manages part of the vineyards, using organic techniques, in view of converting the whole production to organic cultivation with the passing of time. It’s a concrete commitment in defence of the greatest heritage of a cooperative company: those precious vineyards at risk of being abandoned because of the lack of generational turnover within farming families. Preserving the territory and the landscape, offering an occupational perspective to young people who want to stay in the countryside, but have little land at their disposal: Banca dei vigneti supports all of these activities.
