Brunello di Montalcino

Brunello di Montalcino is a famous red wine that has had DOCG status since 1980. This wine icon is made in Tuscany, on the territory of the municipality of Montalcino in the south of the province of Siena. The Brunello di Montalcino is one of the best wines in Italy. Due to the DOCG status, a Brunello wine must mature for at least 50 months on Slovenian oak wood. This is 62 months for the Brunello Riserva. A Brunello is on average drunk after 10 years and can then be stored for years. An alternative to the expensive Brunello di Montalcino is the Rosso di Montalcino. A Rosso di Montalcino matures for 10 months on oak wood and is marketed after one to two years. Rosso di Montalcino has a DOC recognition.
