For 30 years, Nyetimber has had only one mission: to make the finest English sparkling wine, one that rivals the very best in the world. The wine estate has a rich history, which began in 1086 when the estate was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Only 900 years later, in 1988, the first vines were planted by an American couple. Nowadays the Dutch owner Eric Heerema is the face of the winery, he took over in 2006. In the cellar he is assisted by winemakers Cherie Spriggs and Brad Greatrix. Cherie is the chief winemaker and in 2018 became the first woman and the first winemaker outside of Champagne to win the "Sparkling Winemaker of the Year 2018" title. A top performance and a confirmation of the top quality of these English bubbles. Nyetimber owns nine vineyards in West Sussex, Hampshire and Kent. Together they cover about 220 hectares. Just like in Champagne, you will encounter a lot of chalk in the soil here, interspersed with sand.
