Wijs en Zonen Afternoon Blend is famous for its delicate bouquet and beautiful decanter. A carefully balanced blend with a small amount of Lapsang Souchong, which together with the malty Assam forms a nice taste contrast with the slightly tingling Darjeeling.
The pride of Wijs en Zonen because of the unique taste contrasts.
Afternoon tea is a British tradition that typically involves drinking tea and enjoying light snacks or pastries in the mid-afternoon. It is also known as "low tea" because it was traditionally served on low tables or sofas, as opposed to the more formal "high tea" served at a dining table.
The tradition of afternoon tea dates back to the early 19th century when Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, started having a light meal and a cup of tea in the afternoon to stave off hunger before dinner. The tradition soon caught on and became a popular social event, particularly among the upper classes.
Today, afternoon tea is still enjoyed in many parts of the world, especially in the UK and other Commonwealth countries, as well as in upscale hotels and restaurants around the world. It is often considered a luxurious and indulgent experience, and a way to relax and socialize with friends and family.
Wijs & Zonen is a very nice and fascinating tea company due to the many, sometimes decades existing, (international) relationships with customers, suppliers and fellow companies. They still have many customers throughout Europe.
In 1792, the Wijs family started a trade in coffee and tea. In 1828 the family opened a business in Amsterdam, where people from far and wide came to buy quality coffee and tea. The shop is still there, but since November, 2006, Wijs & Zonen has been in a beautiful new location.
Wise tea is sold in Europe, Japan and in the United States. The scents of the Wijs blends are incredibly tender and intense!
