When Frederick Beringer and later Jacob Beringer emigrated from Mainz in Germany to the United States, they first settled in New York. Only later did the brothers move to California to make wine there. Thus, in 1876, the now renowned winery Beringer was founded. They are California's oldest operating wine company. The Beringer Vineyards have the oldest vineyards in Napa Valley. The winemakers of Beringer also last a long time. The current winemaker, Mark Beringer son of the founder, is the 8th winemaker in its long history. This is indicative of the continuity and consistency that characterize the company.
Today, Beringer stands for award-winning quality. In fact, in the Top 100 of the authoritative Wine Spectator, the house has more entries than any other wine company anywhere in the world. They are the only wine company to ever win the Wine Spectator Wine of the Year competition for both red and white wine. Beringer strives for a balance between modern technology and proven wine traditions, resulting in fantastic wines.
