Carmenère

Carmenere

Chilean Carmenère is a red wine that has gained significant popularity over the past few decades. Originally from France, Carmenère is now considered a signature grape of Chile, as it was rediscovered there in the 1990s after being thought extinct for over a century.

Chilean Carmenère is known for its deep color, complex flavors, and aromas of black fruit, tobacco, and spices. The wine has a medium to full body with firm tannins, which provide structure and a long finish. Chilean Carmenère is often aged in oak barrels, which can impart additional flavors of vanilla and toasted oak.

Chilean Carmenère is primarily grown in the Colchagua and Rapel Valleys, where the warm, dry climate and well-drained soils provide ideal conditions for growing grapes that are rich in flavor and tannins. The region's cool nights help to retain the acidity in the grapes, which is important for balance and aging potential.
