Beaujolais appellations

Beaujolais

Beaujolais is a wine region in France known for its red wines, mainly made from the Gamay grape. The region is famous for its vibrant, fruity wines and the unique vinification method called "carbonic maceration," which results in wines with bright fruit aromas and soft tannins. Beaujolais is divided into several appellations, the most important and prestigious of which are the ten crus. Below is a description of the Beaujolais wines, each with its own cru:

Brouilly: Located in the south of Beaujolais, Brouilly is the largest cru. The wines are often fruity, lively and have a beautiful structure.

Chénas: Chénas is the smallest cru and is known for its wines with a robust character and aromas of red fruit and flowers.

Chiroubles: Located on the highest slopes, Chiroubles produces light and elegant wines with floral notes and fresh fruitiness.

Côte de Brouilly: Adjacent to Brouilly, on the hills of Mont Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly offers wines with depth, concentration and expressive fruit aromas.

Fleurie: Fleurie is known for its elegant, floral wines with notes of violet and red fruit. It is often considered one of the most feminine crus.

Juliénas: Juliénas produces wines with a powerful character, often characterized by aromas of cherries, plums and spices.

Morgon: Morgon is known for its deep, structured wines with complex flavors of red fruit, strawberry and sometimes a touch of minerality.

Moulin-à-Vent: Moulin-à-Vent is often considered the most powerful cru with wines that exhibit depth, structure and aging potential. Aromas of blackcurrants and flowers are typical.

Régnié: Régnié produces accessible and fruity wines with a silky texture and aromas of red fruit and flowers.

Saint-Amour: Often considered the most romantic cru, Saint-Amour offers wines with delicacy, aromas of cherries and a light spiciness.

Each Beaujolais cru has its own unique characteristics, and exploring these diverse appellations offers a fascinating journey through the beautiful world of Beaujolais wines.
