Falkenstein is a family-owned winery located in the village of Algund, just outside the city of Merano in the South Tyrol region of northern Italy. The winery is known for producing high-quality white wines, particularly those made from the local grape varieties of the area. The vineyards are situated on steep slopes of the Adige Valley and are characterized by mineral-rich soils and a unique microclimate that is influenced by both the Mediterranean and Alpine climates.
The winery is run by the Schönweger family, who have been producing wine for over 200 years. Today, the fifth and sixth generations of the family are involved in the winemaking process. The winery produces a range of wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Bianco, and Chardonnay, as well as a few red wines such as Lagrein and Pinot Nero. The wines are characterized by their elegance, purity, and complexity, and are often aged in large oak barrels to develop greater depth and complexity.
