Pellegrino is a household name in the wine world of Sicily. Family business Cantine Pellegrino was founded in 1880 in Marsala by Paolo Pellegrino. Meanwhile, Pellegrino has grown into a sizeable company with a total of 400 hectares of vineyards in its own possession, spread over the best parts of the island, especially in the western part.
More than 60 percent is intended for domestic consumption, the rest goes abroad. Sicily was already an important wine producer in Roman times. Southern Italy was then called Oenotria (wine country).
