El Coto de Rioja started in the 1970s as the project of a small number of Rioja winegrowers. El Coto de Rioja is an impressive winery and with more than 700 hectares of its own vineyards has grown into a leading winery in the region in a relatively short time.
The winery in Oyón, just north of Logroño, is impressive for its scale and efficiency, combined with centuries-old traditions. The vineyard management is scientifically supervised so that grapes of the highest possible quality can be produced under all circumstances. For the aging of the red wines, El Coto uses 72,000 oak barrels. This is unique in Rioja and even in the world. The result of all these efforts has ensured that El Coto produces wines with an exceptionally good ratio between price and quality. In a short period of time they have become one of the leading houses in the region.
