Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi

Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi is a wine estate in Burgundy in France. It is located in the village of Santenay, in the Côte de Beaune. The domain covers almost 100 hectares of vineyard spread across the Côte d'Or and the Côte Chalonnaise, the house offers a wide variety of white and red wines.

Château Philippe le Hardi is one of the largest wine estates in Burgundy. The imposing castle in Santenay dates from the 9th century and was owned by Philippe le Hardi (Philips the Bold), Duke of Burgundy, for part of the 14th century. With his "Ordonnance de Philippe le Hardi" he laid the foundation for mono-varietal wine growing in Burgundy, whereby only Pinot Noir could be planted for wine making, and no longer Gamay.

Château Philippe le Hardi has 98 hectares of vineyards spread over the Côte d'Or and the Côte Chalonnaise. In total they make wine in 14 appellations, including Mercurey, Aloxe-Corton, Santenay, Pommard and Saint-Aubin. This wide spread across the area provides an enormous diversity of sub-climates and soil compositions, and therefore the opportunity to capture the different characters and styles of Burgundy in their wines. Attention to the environment and the preservation of healthy vineyards has been central to the house's philosophy for more than 20 years.

The Château has been Terra Vitis certified since 2004 and is constantly looking for new ways to work as naturally as possible.
