Josep Maria Tetas built the current Bodegas Pinord winery in 1942. This is located in Vilafranca del Penedès, just four kilometers from the original estate. The name Bodegas Pinord comes from the farm of the estate Pi del Nord. Josep Maria Tetas, curious and enterprising, found small amounts of carbon that young wines spontaneously release. He began investigating whether he could incorporate that carbon into his wine. Like the French make “petillants” wine and Italians make “frizzantes”. Thus the first “Needle” wine was born in Spain, the “Reynal”. The success exceeded all expectations. At that time, the “Cavas Murrugat” was born, named after the surname of Josep's wife.
Bodegas Pinord is a family-owned winery with a wine tradition dating back more than 150 years. Generation after generation, the Tetas family produces delicious Spanish wines. Today there are two generations engaged in the production of a wide range of wines. Now also organic. The indigenous grape varieties have developed strongly and the family name is inextricably linked to Penedès wines.
